Himmelfahrtskommando 2009 - Cassis Calanques!

The 4th Himmelfahrtskommando is done!

The title Himmelfahrtskommando has resulted from the puplic holiday called "Christi Himmelfahrt". Each year around this date I go with friends on an action trip, where we focus on mountain biking and rock climbing. We prefer to camp in tents and look for beautiful locations, which fit our special needs.

This year we chose South France => Cassis => Calanques and stayed there for a full week.

I don't want to describe the incredible week we had with just plain words. Turn up our speakers and enjoy this video:

Working semester at TiSUN GmbH

Studying "Eco-Energy Engineering" at FH-Wels also includes a semester of full time working. I did it at TiSUN GmbH in Tirol, where I had build up a good reputation when working there in my study free time.
This guaranteed a fast start with all the collages I already knew in the company and interesting, advanced projects.

Down there you find the report I did of my working semester.

It's written in german, a google translated english version can be found here. Otherwise you might be disturbed by the heavy usage of the word "Die" - which simply means "the" in german. :-)

Migirora[ESP] rocked Tirol!

This year the week with new years eve in between has been really special. Thanks to the visit of Miquel and Aurora. He is a good friend of mine from our abroad semester in Sweden, where we did a lot of rock climbing and other outdoor stuff together.

In summer I went to Alicante for a week and it was just great to experience the country with a real local. Of course I wanted to organize a similar cool week as Miquel did for me, so check out some pictures of things we did in the last week:

Has been such a great time! I wish everybody to get friends from abroad, the intercultural exchange is so exiting and beeing a touriste-guide for your surrounding sights makes them so much more interesting.

For almost two years friends of mine produced their second western in Austria/Tyrol. I've been at the premiere in Innsbruck and experienced a really great movie!

Nach sechs Semestern Ökoenergietechnik Studium an der FH-Wels habe ich mir einen guten Überblick geschaffen, wie es um unsere Energieversorgung so steht.

Meine Schlussfolgerungen erzähle ich inzwischen regelmäßig Freunden, Verwandten und Bekannten. Das Gespräch beginnt meistens mit weit verbreiteten Meinungen, die etwa so klingen:

"Das Öl reicht uns eh noch 20-30 Jahre und inzwischen kommt schon was neues, da ist ja eh der Wasserstoff und so - mit dem fahr ma halt dann weiter ... "

Ich antworte dann immer folgendes:

"Nicht das Ende des Öls ist unser Problem, sondern der Peak-Oil. Das so genannte Ölfördermaximum, welches in vielen erdölfördernden Ländern wie Alaska, Syrien oder Norwegen bereits überschritten wurde.
Zeitgleich steigt der tägliche Verbrauch an Öl, welcher sich irgendwann nicht mehr mit der täglichen Fördermenge decken lässt. Dies lässt sich zwar über Puffer und den globalen Markt hinauszögern, es wird aber definitiv zu Engpässen kommen.
Was dann folgt kann sich wohl jeder, in einer vom Öl vollkommen abhängigen Wirtschaft, leicht selbst ausmalen. Sobald über die Medien echte Versorgungsprobleme trotz Zahlungsfähigkeit des zu der Zeit aktuellen Ölpreises publik würden, wäre der Aufschrei groß. Angefangen mit Hamsterkäufen und den Reaktionen der Börsen ist bis hin zu Krieg alles möglich.
Dann ist das Drängen Richtung alternativen Energien natürlich groß! Aber ein Umstieg kann leider nicht von heute auf morgen passieren. Zurzeit decken die meisten Staaten nicht einmal den ständig weiter steigenden Energiebedarf mit regenerativen Energiequellen.
Eine Wechsel bedarf mehr als nur andere Energie-Konsumeinstellungen der Bevölkerung. Auch das Verbrauchsverhalten muss sich ändern, Energieeffizienz ist notwendig um überhaupt die Versorgung unserer Energiedienstleistungen über Windräder, PV-Module, Kollektoren, Akkus, Wasserstoff ... möglich zu machen.
Das alles muss aber auch produzieren werden. Und dies geht leider nur mehr über ein gut ölgeschmierte funktionierende Weltwirtschaft.
Darum wäre die Zeit zu handeln gerade JETZT, wenn alles noch gut läuft. Den wenn wir warten bis uns Versorgungsprobleme uns die Schlinge um den Hals zuziehen, wird unser Leben sehr viel schwieriger werden!"

Dann folgen Diskussionen über "Pfadabhängigkeit", "Verteidigung des Status quo", "Kernfusion", "staatliche Förderungen", "menschlicher Egoismus", "Politik", "was für Auswege es gibt" und so weiter - immer wieder interessant!

Ich bin froh das ich vor 4 Jahren mit einer reinen Techniker Karriere noch nicht zufrieden war und mich entschieden habe mich in eine Richtung weiter zu bilden die mir wirklich etwas bedeutet. Ökoenergietechnik Projekte motivieren mich und ich werde mein Möglichstes tun um die Zukunft freundlicher zu gestalten, als sie für mich jetzt aussieht.

I'm just sitting at Alicante Airport after a magnificent week in South Spain/Alicante. I visited Miquel, who is a close friend of mine since my abroad semester in Sweden/Skövde.
Not many people love the nature and mountains as much as we do. Especially climbing/escalda on them. :-)

It's hard to put it into words, how happy I feel after all the great experiences in the last days. That's why I let the pictures speak for themselves, enjoy:

Yeah! We did the project documentation for the BMB-Project as a website and took the idea even further than we thought before:

-> Exchange platform for the registered society "Zukunftsenergie Bärenloch" established by the project team.

Project BMB - Biomass Micronet Bärenloch

... is the interdisciplinary project I joined this semester. It runs beside the study program and is done by a group of students.

To test new ways in online project management, I've set up the project at Goplan.org. This simple online platform helps to keep all people in touch and we saved already a lot of organization time.

KISS: Improving the survivability of the region Bärenloch.*
*We plan a heat micronet including the full bandwidth of finance, law and of course as engineers - the technical solution(s).

Next thursday is going to be an important day, we present the possible scenarios for the parties concerned. But we will make our ideas stick.

Back home with 80kg luggage!

Somehow I managed it to fly back home to Austria with 80kg luggage including my bike! This was just possible with the help of Otto, who took me along from Skövde to Göteborg. Tack så mycket!
Now I will celebrate christmas with my relatives and start to work again in january at TiSUN.

It's possible to fly with so much extra luggage without extra costs, thanks to a lot of sports equipment.

Team Tower speed-climbing contest!

Hej Hej!

Yesterday I won the speed-climbing contest on the Team Tower on top of Billigen. It was a tournament to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Klätterklubb. In the final I climbed against Magnus the trainer of the "Sverige Klätter National Team" and was a little bit faster.

Thanks you all for this great day, especially for the nice dinner in the evening. This was definitely one of my best days in Sweden.

The RIAA just won a lawsuit against a randomly chosen privat person, see details on wired.com or futurezone.ORF.at .

It's just another act of trying to frighten the people. Their tactics are even comprehensible - the only chance for them to get back the past golden days is to react now. After a critical mass of people is used to filesharing, the common sense will make it impossible for them to achieve big changes.

BUT WAIT, I think you've missed that boat already ...

Because the "American Culture of Suing" is like a hollywood movie for an European, I want to see you fighting an equivalent enemy:
